The run of my next play, “No Mean City: Baltimore 1966,” will include a free student matinee on Wednesday, March 11 at noon. Seating in the Meyerhoff Theater of the Baltimore Museum of Art is limited to 350, so Baltimore-area high schools are urged to make reservations now.

“No Mean City” is a historical drama about the civil rights movement and the backlash to it, the words and deeds of Baltimore’s last Republican mayor and the union of two great Robinsons — Brooks and Frank — who helped the Baltimore Orioles win the 1966 American League pennant and World Series.

We think students as well as their teachers will learn a lot about the people and social forces that, 60 years ago, started to shape the Baltimore we know today.

High school principals or history department heads are urged to make plans early for this field trip to the BMA. If you have questions or wish to reserve seats, please contact Frank Slade at rodricksplay@gmail.com

Also: We are looking for a little help with sponsorship to defray the cost of the March 11th student matinee and an expanded printed program with background information. If you or your business can help, please donate online or get in touch at rodricksplay@gmail.com.
