The run of my next play, “No Mean City: Baltimore 1966,” will include a free student matinee on Wednesday, March 11 at noon. I am happy and excited to report that 350 middle and high school students from Baltimore City and Baltimore County will attend the performance at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Several sponsors have stepped up to make this possible, and we thank them.
“No Mean City” is a historical drama about the civil rights movement and the backlash to it, the words and deeds of Baltimore’s last Republican mayor and the union of two great Robinsons — Brooks and Frank — who helped the Baltimore Orioles win the 1966 American League pennant and World Series.
We are still looking for a little help with sponsorship to defray the cost of the student matinee and an expanded printed program with background information. If you or your business can help, please donate online or get in touch with Frank Slade at rodricksplay@gmail.com.
