This is how a postal worker on Maryland’s Eastern Shore hopes to keep cool while driving around in a USPS mail truck — with a PVC elbow that catches the breeze from the open window and directs it inside the Grumman “long life vehicle” that the service has been using for decades. The LLVs have no air conditioning, something that probably never occurs to the average postal customer. (I certainly never thought of it until my friend Kurt Kolaja sent me this photo the other day.) Imagine driving around in one of those white metal boxes on a hot summer day.

For the record, the USPS is scheduled to finally replace these mail trucks in the next couple of years, according to this 2021 news story from The Seattle Times. Sounds about three decades overdue.
