A friend in South Carolina says she can’t bear to read or follow the news from Washington and the Trump regime. Another told me he thinks he’s been suffering from PTSD since the election; he can’t wrap his head around 77 million Americans voting to make a criminal the president again. And now, with Trump back in office and issuing outrageous executive orders — with Elon Musk acting as saboteur-in-chief, with Spineless Senate Republicans enabling Trumps’ destructiveness and divisiveness — rational, democracy-loving Americans feel overwhelmed and powerless. This is “our winter of discontent” to quote the Bard, and, at the moment, it’s hard to see “glorious summer” ahead.

Not that it compares in terms of importance, but Baltimore Ravens fans were already reeling from another disappointing playoff loss — another Super Bowl trip cancelled — when the Baltimore Banner broke disturbing and disappointing news about a popular player, the kicker Justin Tucker. Dan, Thanks for always being there as a reality check. It is a very hard time to be an American who loves democracy. Seeing worthy institutions that took decades to build destroyed in hours is heart breaking. Standing in a sea of protesters to demand Musk stop his boy hackers from breaching our data feels like spitting in the wind. Keep writing. We all need to hear your reasoned voice.
