I share this letter from a Baltimore Sun reader named Ken because I have rarely, if ever, received one like it. And it’s especially meaningful these days, with the nation profoundly polarized. After you read this, please see my other daily post, about the need to confront people who accepted the Big Lies, because Ken’s letter suggests there might be hope yet.
Well Dan, being on the right my entire life (78 now) I use to zip by your column on page 3 usually with anger. Then a couple of years ago I actually stopped to read it now and then. Usually I would strongly disagree with whatever point you were making. Then something strange started to happen, I was starting to agree with you now and then. Even though I’m still on the right you have opened my eyes to many issues. I’m becoming more understanding and less stubborn on many issues. I really enjoy your columns on people and today’s story on Mrs. Mannetta was off the charts and I really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing her with us.
Keep up the good work and thanks for showing me the other side.
Ken
That’s how we open eyes, Dan. I have always been a fan and I am delighted to see that you can and have created change one reader at a time. If one person writes, in, I hope it means 10 have softened, but didn’t write.

Way to go Dan! Thanks for sharing and not so subtle encouragement to the rest of us to speak up!
