We were there before the highly anticipated hatches of salmon flies and large stones.

June 1: Drift boat fishing with Mike “Dirty Mike” Ellliott; the Madison River, from Ruby Creek to Varney. Several healthy brown and rainbow trout, and white fish, taken on psycho prince nymphs drifted below large yellow buggers. Lunch: Homemade chili warmed on a Coleman. Excellent guide.

Accommodations while fishing the Madison: Dream Drift Motel and Fly Shop, Cameron, Montana; Brad Terrell proprietor. Highly recommend it, if you’re not camping.
