Once more, with new scenes and a ballad: “Baltimore, You Have No Idea” on stage in December

Hello, all: I’m pleased to announce that “Baltimore, You Have No Idea,” the play about my adopted hometown, returns to the stage for its fourth and final run, featuring new scenes and a song about the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Tickets are now on sale.

If you’ve been before, you will find something new in the play. If not, please come and see what people have been talking about. And anyone who grew up in Baltimore or moved here — or moved away from here — will enjoy this play. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll sigh.

There will be eight performances in the comfortable 350-seat Meyerhoff Theater of the Baltimore Museum of Art, Dec. 8 to 13, including three matinees. General admission tickets are $37, with a discount for BMA members. There are also group discounts.

All previous runs of the play have sold out.

“Baltimore, You Have No Idea” is a multimedia play presenting stories from my long-running column for The Baltimore Sun and Evening Sun. I call it “a one-man play with a cast of seven, or maybe eight.”

The 2026 version of the play comes with three new scenes, including a live performance of a ballad about the Francis Scott Key Bridge disaster by music director Mat Lane with Lisa Matthews, Mikel Gehl and Willem Elsevier of the Love Riot band.

The play weaves the action on stage with live music and projected images and video. The running time is 90 minutes. “Baltimore, You Have No Idea” was initially produced in December 2022 and was so well received that it returned in December 2023 and December 2024.

2024 Best of Baltimore: Best Playwright

In August 2024, Baltimore magazine named Rodricks best playwright in its annual “Best of Baltimore” issue, and in August 2026, the magazine named Rodricks’ third play, “No Mean City: Baltimore 1966” the best play of the year.
