Stories from Waters and Woods by Dan Rodricks
In his fourth play, longtime Baltimore columnist and fly angler Dan Rodricks takes his audience on a soulful journey down the Gunpowder River, sharing stories about people and places encountered in a lifetime of wonder on water and in woods.
Over a newspaper career spanning five decades, Dan Rodricks from time to time broke from his city-based column for The Baltimore Sun to describe experiences in the outdoors, along Maryland rivers and on the Chesapeake Bay. He tells some of those stories in “A Gunpowder River Anthology,” a one-man play presented by Manor Mill Playhouse for four performances, March 12-14, 2007 in the David Niven Theater of the Oldfields School. Oldfields is located in Glencoe Sparks, just a short distance from the Gunpowder River, where Dan learned how to fly fish for trout.

With monologues, music and projected images, “A Gunpowder River Anthology” transports the audience from small creeks to the Chesapeake and the Atlantic Ocean, from the woods of Western Maryland to the mountains of Pennsylvania and small-town Massachusetts. Dan tells of encounters with wildlife, with old friends and remarkable strangers.
Lovers of the outdoors will be treated to a series of reveries written and brought to life on stage as spring 2027 approaches.
Dan Rodricks is the author of “Father’s Day Creek: Fly Fishing, Fatherhood and The Last Best Place on Earth” (Apprentice House 2019). In addition, Dan has written, produced and performed in three plays about his adopted hometown, “Baltimore, You Have No Idea,” “Baltimore Docket” and “No Mean City: Baltimore 1966.”
The fourth run of “Baltimore, You Have No Idea” takes place December 8-13 at the Meyerhoff Theater of the Baltimore Museum of Art. For tickets: youhavenoidea.org
